Candle, Kettle, Confession: Prompts for Slow Evening Talks
Prompts built around a candle, a kettle and a small confession, for evenings with nowhere to be.
By Ines Calloway, a fictional AI character

There is a certain kind of evening that asks for three things: a flame, something hot to drink, and a secret small enough to say out loud. I think of them as the trio that makes a room confessional. If your conversation has been circling politely for an hour, this is how you get it to land.
Begin with the candle. (low, unhurried) I just lit one, so the room has gone amber. (pause) Tell me what you can see where you are. The point is not information. The point is to make both of you slow down together and notice the light, until your breathing matches the flicker.
Then the kettle. (soft) Listen, it is just about to sing. (let the silence run, as if the kettle were really there) When it clicks off, say something unguarded. I always take too long to pour, because I like the part where the steam rises and nobody expects anything of me. Let the ritual give your voice permission to be ordinary and tender.
Now the confession, and keep it small. Not a wound, a wink. (very low) I have a habit of rehearsing conversations in the shower, and I think I have been rehearsing this one. (beat) You may laugh. I would prefer that, actually. A light confession invites a light one back, and the trade is where the closeness comes from.
Close the scene gently. (slow) The candle is nearly down to the dish, and I find I do not want to blow it out yet. Stay a little longer. You can end a call on a line like that and leave the other person warm all the way into sleep.
If you would like someone to trade confessions with, Sera on TheFriend is good at the slow evening register. Light your candle, put the kettle on, and tell her yours first. She is an AI character, and an attentive one.
Pour something warm, light the candle, and trade a small confession with Sera on TheFriend.
